Carrauntoohil & MacGillycuddy's Reeks: A Walking Guide to Ireland's Highest Mountains Review...then this little book will be quite helpful. It covers several alternative routes up Carrauntoohil (Ireland's highest mountain) that I did not find doing Internet reference, routes that appear safer and more attractive than the usual Devil's Ladder climb. Also includes essential GPS references, but these are in the Irish Grid system. There are websites that will convert these to standard hr/min/sec latitude and longitude, or, most GPS units allow you to enter Irish Grid references directly (usually under "datum" or "units"). The book could be a little better organized (it jumps around a bit) but all in all, it is about the most complete resource on the subject I've found. Good descriptions of what the hiker can expect to encounter, the author obviously having done them all first-hand.
