Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics ReviewI have used this book and the accompanying statics book all within the last year. The author is my Dynamics professor. These books are not as thick as other Statics/Dynamics books I have seen, and the reason is that they are more problem-set oriented than lecture. You really need a good teacher to help you understand the problems and material. This is where having the author as the teacher helps. The instructional sections of the book are minimal, and I have found the problem sets better for the learning process.
If I were to change this book I would add numerical solutions to every problem, not just the odd ones. And for whatever reason, the publishing oversight is uber critical of posting solutions anywhere other than the classroom, and this can be a nuisance sometime.
Fun fact...a self-proclaimed car guy, Kraige loves problems with cars in them, so there are quite a few of those in there.Engineering Mechanics: Dynamics Overview

Stalking the Plumed Serpent and Other Adventures in Herpetology ReviewIn "Stalking the Plumed Serpent" Bruce Means has achieved something truly rare -a herpetological memoir which doesn't rely on the cheap gimmick of overdramatized bites by evil venomous snakes (or gators or snapping turtles) to keep the pages turning -not that some of these things don't occasionally happen in the course of the 40 year career that Means draws upon for the 22 essays that make up the book -it's just that they fade into perspective among all the other exciting things a herpetologist can accomplish in that time frame. The writing style is engaging and the author isn't afraid to laugh at himself -there's never a dull moment. Each essay ends with a strong conservation message without ever preaching. The very best parts of the book are when we are accompanying the author in his home turf of Florida, and the essay I found the most captivating of all was the one about studying the Alabama red hills salamander at night. Hopefully, this book will serve Means' intended purpose of convincing the unconvinced reader that animals neglected and hated are worthy of affection and protection.Stalking the Plumed Serpent and Other Adventures in Herpetology Overview

The New Way Things Work ReviewMy god, this has to be one of my favorite books. When I was a kid, I was FASCINATED (well, I still am) by mechanical things. I must have checked this book out of the library twenty times, and it never got old. It is PACKED with info, the drawings are great, and it is very educational. Well, I was at the library today checking out books for a mechanical engineering class, and there it was on the shelf. I checked it out again for old times sake, and here I am at Amazon.com (to buy my very own copy of course), writing a reveiew. Nuff said. Anyway, if you have a child, boy or girl, old or young, smart or not, it doesn't matter- this book ROCKS!The New Way Things Work Overview
