What We Do for Love ReviewI'm in love with Ms. Beckerman's concise
style of writing. Her grandmother's profound wisdom, remembered through each crisis in her life, can be a vehicle of insight for all women. I
sobbed for 15 minutes after finishing this book. Although I'm married, I'm still waiting for my "Stanley."What We Do for Love Overview

Pastor's Handbook ReviewThe last time I read a rewritten classic, I was sorely disappointed. Happily, this was not the case as I read John Bisago's Pastor's Handbook.
I also found myself surprised at the style of the book - I expected to see sample worship service, sample prayers, sample sermon outlines. I found these - but I found so much more. The book is laid out as a series of devotionals - each about 2-1/2 pages in length. Each "devotional" is rooted in scripture, but it is also practical.
Beginning with a series of short devotionals (i.e. essays) on the nature and the origin of the church, the book moves on to more practical matters. The section headings provide a survey of the topics covered:
Part 1: The Church
Part 2: The Pastor as God's Man
Part 3: The Pastor as Spiritual Leader
Part 4: The Pastor as Organizational Leader
Part 5: The Pastor as Preacher
Part 6: Worship Services
Part 7: Programs and Ministries
Part 8: The Church Staff
Part 9: The Church Finances
Part 10: Facilities and Operations
Part 11: Other Important Matters
Part 12: Issues/Taking a Position
A closer look at the table of contents will provide a more detailed look at the subjects covered.
Though the author is now a retired pastor, he does not speak for the graying church. He recognizes the need for the church to be more than it was it was - it will reach out to speak to people from various cultures and different generations.
Though I come from the Wesleyan Church, I found John Bisago's book interesting, helpful and encouraging. Pastors and leaders from across the ecclesiastical spectrum would be assisted in reaching their world for Christ as they take the time to study the 400 pages of the Pastor's Handbook.
I was glad to have the opportunity to read this book

Reinventing Diversity: Transforming Organizational Community to Strengthen People, Purpose, and Performance ReviewAs a European Diversity professional, this book helped me to get a broader perspective on D&I strategy in organisations that goes beyond the usual mentoring and leadership programs. Howard Ross has a writing style that is very engaging, eloquent, but not complicated. I love the way he peppers his work with his own anecdotes, making it a very personal read. I can recommend this book to anyone in the diversity field, but also to anyone interested in why our societies and organisations work the way they do. If this isn't Diversity 3.0, I don't know what is.Reinventing Diversity: Transforming Organizational Community to Strengthen People, Purpose, and Performance Overview

Think Fast: Accurate Decision-Making, Problem-Solving, and Planning in Minutes a Day ReviewThis book contains simple, straight-forward and effective steps for dealing with critical situations, and managing daily problems in business or personal life.
Instead of losing your head, stop, take the time out and write down all of your concerns. List each of your concerns on a separate line. Assign priority to each item on the list and then pick the right-road for your concern.
Identify which thinking skill you need to resolve each concern: (1) Do you need to make a decision? (2) Do you need to find the cause of the problem? or (3) Do you need to make it happen?
Then learn how to effectively execute each one of these skills, how to consistently and accurately make good decisions; how to solve problems, and how to plan effectively.
To make a good decision, (1) know purpose for that decision, (2) establish criteria by deciding which factors are negotiable and which are non-negotiable, (3) compare each option to your criteria and not one option to another, and (4) assess the risks.
To solve problems, (1) state the problem, (2) gather the facts, (3) compare, (4) look for differences or changes and (5) verify your conclusions.
To plan effectively, (1) state your objective, (2) develop an action plan, (3) list foreseeable problems and opportunities, (3) define how to prevent and facilitate, (4) create plan B, (5) create trigger alerts, and (6) update your action plan.
The book contains a bonus chapter on innovation.
The author has clearly explained each step and offered examples, and then you are encouraged to follow the steps by applying them to your own situation.
The material in this book is presented systematically and exceptionally well.Think Fast: Accurate Decision-Making, Problem-Solving, and Planning in Minutes a Day Overview

Chasing Ghosts, Texas Style: On the Road with Everyday Paranormal ReviewThis is one of the best written books from a tv paranormal group. Brad and Barry discuss the realities (not the glamour) behind a paranormal group from the process of starting a group, frustrations of dealing with people (from crazies, faux psychics and people who just want to get their 15 minutes of fame) and the media. Ghost Lab takes a scientific approach to ghost hunting which is very refreshing. This is what a paranormal group should be about. It saddens me that their show got cancelled because I thought it was one of the best paranormal shows on tv.Chasing Ghosts, Texas Style: On the Road with Everyday Paranormal Overview

Lion Eyes ReviewI wanted to like this book, but after plowing through 415 pages of tedious repetition I found I did not. This will not be a favorable review even as I so wanted it to be. I know, however, that there are many out there who would not mind the repetition and the questionable writing. To them I say, "Buy it, read it, enjoy."
There is some puzzlement as to who is doing the writing. Victor, whose name is on the book as the author, sets the book out to be written/spoken in the first person by 3 people, Jan, his wife and his son. And yet, how did this happen? Were they tape recorded? Wrote in a journal that was then translated to paper? What? I bring this up because taping people's statements and then setting them down in print is NOT being a writer. It's being a recorder. Apparently, Victor exercised little or no editing authority over what these people said. Therefore, I hope he shared the profits with them equally for they are the true authors and did most of the work!
First of all, this is NOT a mystical book or even an Indian book; it is a Christian book, despite lions helping Jan. After all, Daniel was also helped by lions in their den, so . . . Jesus is found aplenty and either the Bible is referenced or he is on almost every page.
Second, the repetition is egregious as is the hyperbole. For example, within the first 30 pages you hear the lion story FIVE times. How many times do we need to hear it? And must we read that Jan is noble and kind over and over again? There is fatuous self-promoting with very little humility, unless you count someone saying, "I am a very humble man" as taken.
Third, I must protest to Hay House who published this mishegas. I read a great deal (7-8 books a wk sometimes) and I'd say roughly 8 out of 10 of them are bady in need of editing. And the darndest thing is that many times those authors who so profusely thank their editors on their acknowledgement page, are the very ones who are in most grievous need of editing! A tight, thrilling, cohesive story could have been wrested from this book if pared down to around 250 pages. It is an outstanding bad example of poor or no editing! Life is just too short for all that repetition.
But it isn't just the length that bothers. Scenes are not fleshed out, tales are left half-told, endings peter out, meanings left unexplained. One example: Victor tells Jan that he will not take on this project until he has a dream about it. Now here is potential mysticism, Spirit at work in our lives! But we never find out if he had the dream, or what it was if he did. However, we do get two paragraphs of unnecessary promotion of Victor's previous books along with quotes from an LA Times review which interrupt the flow and add nothing to the story.
Lastly there is an acute aroma of lack of verisimilitude to this story. Over and OVER and over, Victor and the people bring up how "others" have doubted the truth of this tale, and then go on to swear and insist on its veracity until you just shake your head and mutter,
"Methinks thou doth protest too much." Which is to say, there is little spiritual authority going on here and much inner conflct. The story is told in a way that sounds like Hollywood is imagining it -- with all its sentimentality, loose ends and inaccurate depictions. I'm not saying it's a lie; I have no way of knowing. I'm only saying it sounds frequently untrue, and if it isn't then we must lay the blame right at the feet of Hay House who should have had an editor who whipped this book into a well-told, easily belevable whole.
So what is the ultimate message here that Victor and Jan want to get across? It can be found in the totally unnecessary Preface: "we ordinary people, educated or not educated, aren't helpless once we are connected to our God Spirit." Fine, as far as it goes. But unfortunately, God also created a brain for us and Spirit is in that, too.
Jan, who often idealizes "the way it was" in the "old days," when he says the Indians lived full of faith for the miraculous, and indicates he feels we need to return to that way of living, explains, "we (indigenous people) lived each day not full of thinking, but instead reaching up for the sunlight of God as naturally as a weed, a flower, or a tree." That's so lovely. The thing is we aren't flowers, weeds, or trees. We're human beings who, while having connection and communication with those things, nonetheless also have a brain through which we think. Thinking, we learn to speak. Speaking, we learn to write. Writing, we learn to be clear, accurate and truthful to the best of our ability. Victor's ability is not of the highest in this book.
Since Indians are among the poorest and most exploited of people, it appears their faith and miracles do not help them live and eat well. Can Victor and Jan not see that it is a combination of faith and the power of the mind that is called for? That, it seems to me, is what Jan is all about. But I'm not sure he realizes the thrilling possibilities that come with integrating and giving life to the best and most meaningful of two dying religions: Christianity and Native.

What's Gotten into Us: Staying Healthy in a Toxic World Review"What's Gotten into Us?" is scarier than a Stephen King novel. It is a horror story that is all the more frightening because it is real. The author, who has done extensive research and interviewed quite a few experts, provides an overview of the hazardous substances that Americans eat, drink, breathe, and touch every day. Nursing mothers unwittingly pass toxins on to their babies; toddlers play with toys made from plastics containing dangerous chemicals; we clean our clothes and homes using products whose ingredients we cannot even pronounce; we keep our lawns lush with something called 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (a constituent of Agent Orange); and across America, manufacturers continue to release noxious wastes into our air and water supply.
McKay Jenkins is far from a hysterical tree-hugger. He is a professor and journalist who had a cancer scare and decided that it was time to figure out how to stay healthy in a world filled with man-made poisons. It turns out that this is no easy task. The government agencies whose mission it is to oversee our environment are understaffed and underfunded; chemical companies donate large amounts of money to campaign funds and do everything in their power to defeat legislation that could negatively affect their bottom line; factory owners would rather pay minuscule fines than clean up their messes; and the United States continues to import many goods from the Far East that are not screened carefully enough for lead, bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates, and a whole host of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can potentially harm us. Americans have reason to wonder why our leaders lag behind those in Europe who have passed REACH legislation that gives them tighter control over 30,000 chemicals currently in use. Although oversight costs money, "these costs would be recouped many times over in reduced illnesses from chemical exposure...."
Jenkins's prose is clear and polished. He provides eye-opening anecdotes, pertinent statistics, and useful ideas about what we can do to reverse the damage. "What's Gotten into Us?" is a well-organized, extensively documented, and provocative work of non-fiction that should be required reading for anyone who cares about his well-being and the future of our planet. This book will make you think twice before you reach for that aerosol air freshener, plan your home remodeling project, apply body lotion, purchase pajamas for your toddler, sip a bottle of water, or spray your garden. As Matt Belliveau of Maine's Environmental Health Strategy Center says, "What's important is that the safety system has been badly broken." It is up to us and our representatives to make sure that it is fixed as soon as possible.

The Advanced Smart Grid: Edge Power Driving Sustainability ReviewBefore they invite you to travel with them into the future, Carvallo and Cooper do a solid job of orienting the reader with concise summaries of where the grid came from, how it's evolved over time, and as accurately as possible, how it's doing in its current state. For the many immigrants who've recently moved to energy from other sectors (like me), this is a great grounding.
But it's where the book goes after that that makes it almost worth its high sticker price. The authors look past the current climate of activity, much of it initially fueled with government grants, to a phase where business drivers alone dictate what gets deployed next. And they walk us down a path from yesterday's Smart Grid 1.0 (birthed at Austin Electric in Texas), to today's 2.0 versions growing in Austin and around the world, enabled by advances in distributed energy resources (DER), energy storage solutions, new business models and more. Ultimately, they begin to unveil for us a blurry but emerging vision of Smart Grid 3.0, or "the advanced Smart Grid", that's predicated on pervasive IP networking, tons and tons of data, microgrids, EVs and virtual power plants.
Old timers, unaccustomed to much change over their careers may scoff. And maybe they're right to. But for folks raised in the Internet age and looking to transform an industry from something good to something great, this is must reading.
Would be a five star rating but for the price. Hopefully it'll come down a ways as an ebook soon ... before too much of the future gets here. The Advanced Smart Grid: Edge Power Driving Sustainability Overview

A Man from Another Land: How Finding My Roots Changed My Life ReviewI finished reading Isaiah Washington's book last week but as I am still thinking about the book today, I guess it has earned the phrase "thought provoking". The essence of the story for me is that it is a memoir of self discovery told in a very interesting voice with something new to say. While there is the narrative of the DNA that provides a link to Sierra Leone, I think the real discovery is how the reader perceives the author through his account of events. Mr. Washington is a man who knows what it is like to live in relative anonymity (as he starts out), to live in a world of approbation, and to live in a world of public disapproval, somewhat overblown media-hyped disapproval. The discovery is to be true to one's self through it all. There are vignettes of joy and of pain, of history and forgiveness. There is a celebration of knowledge, of understanding DNA and that it has "memory". The author is on a journey that is truly fascinating because he does not know where it will lead when it begins. I found the situations in Sierra Leone compelling and the narrative places that country squarely "on the radar". Like all things in the book, Mr. Washington finds some situations in Sierra Leone exhilarating and some situations truly heartbreaking. There is a story on page 141 of a water pipe which I won't relate here-you can read it. But as a father, my heart breaks reading that story as his does while he is witnessing it. So this is a truly compelling, human story that snuck up on me with each chapter.
As I read A Man from Another Land, it seemed to me like a shoo-in for an audio book. You feel like the account is truly Mr. Washington's personal journey that he is telling. Personally I think the voice is so strong that when the sequel is done, and I'd like to see it released as an audio book and printed at the same time, maybe with a podcast supplementing it.
Why do I think there's a compelling second book there?
Mr. Washington tells the story in his book how he read in the newspaper that Bausch and Laumb suffered a bad "media liability" moment. Their stock plummeted and he took that moment to buy stock, making enough to finance some of his Sierra Leone work. I think that's where Mr. Washington was after suffering a simple bad media moment blown way out of proportion. The public also loves Act Two, The Comeback, and that's clearly going to happen. Mr. Washington had a ten year plan to work with Spike Lee. He had a 365 day plan to build a school, and did it. I think any reader who reads A Man from Another Land to the end will want to see his three or four year plan for his career and for Sierra Leone. If he achieves success, as I believe he will, that will be the unbeatable story. We will want to watch it, hear it and read it and we're going to learn how it's done.

Moonlight on Linoleum: A Daughter's Memoir ReviewThrough exquisite writing, Ms Helwig takes the reader along on the ragged journey through her childhood with the vividness and gentleness of a young girl telling a bedtime story. Since we are allowed to peer through a child's eyes, the poverty, neglect and ignorance somehow does not horrify us. (No cheap pulls for emotion here!) Rather we are given a chance to become the little girl, share her adventures, grow up along with her and find strength and inspiration amidst the chaos. The story is so engrossing that I stayed up all night to finish the book! Now I want to read it again to savor the deceptively "simple" writing style.

When I read this I was focusing on how bad my job was becuase of this and that(...) also because I hadn't met anyone in a long time. So much focus on myself was very draining. This book taught me ways of thinking - that all other living beings want happiness just like me, understanding of the causes of my suffering, and what to do about it, and how to change my mind, and thereby create a new reality.

Let's Get It On: The Making of MMA and Its Ultimate Referee ReviewMost pro sports referees fade into the background and they like it like that. Few NFL refs are noticed, unless they blow a pass interference call. Major league baseball umps vie for notoriety with outlandish gyrations on strike-out calls, but please just try to name one. NBA refs only make headlines when they are caught betting on games, perhaps during their sentencing hearings. If fans know your name as a ref in most sports, that's not necessarily a good thing.
Not so in mixed martial arts.
Here we have a cast of characters almost as well known as some of the fighters.
These refs in this increasingly popular sport are well known, somewhat celebs in their own right. Many have their own "signature" way of starting the fights. Some are understated and quietly professional, like Mario Yamasaki. Some just bark, "Fight!" Others, like Steve Mazzagatti, yell "Let's hook em'-up!" Perhaps the most iconic MMA ref tag-line, though, belongs to "Big" John McCarthy and his patented start to each contest, as he shakes his hand and exhorts the two fighters, "Let's get it on!"
Big John has been around since the start of MMA and the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC). Now along comes his long-awaited autobiography, co-authored by Loretta Hunt. Hunt is one of the nation's premier MMA journalists. She attained some unintended notoriety of her own a few years ago in a well-publicized dust-up with UFC Emperor Dana White, who launched into a profanity-laced tantrum after one of Hunt's journalistic forays.
In a sense, the story of Big John is the story of modern MMA. He was there at the beginning, from UFC 1 when a slender dude in white pajamas somehow was able to choke out and submit a succession of incredible hulks.
So ... does Big John "get it on" in this book? Does he give us the inside scoop on the modern world of mixed martial arts? From his vantage point inside the octagon, does he bring us there in a credible way?
To get to the good stuff, you first have to wade through about 100 pages of back story on Big John's upbringing. This is not bad, because it gives you a context for his interest in athletics and combative sports. As a member of the LAPD during the time of the Rodney King race riots, he became interested in non-lethal ways to control suspects. This led him to intersect with Rorion Gracie who, at the time, was popularizing his own variant of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Southern California. In turn, this growing collaboration with the Gracies gave McCarthy a front-row vantage point regarding the very first UFC events. He was, literally, "present at the creation" of the modern UFC and the phenomenon of mixed martial arts.
Little known fact: before becoming the iconic ref for MMA events, Big John wanted to compete in UFC 2. Rorion Gracie nixed the idea, though, as he did not want Big John potentially having to fight Royce. Instead, he suggested that McCarthy wait until after Royce's reign ended, then get involved as a competitor. In the meantime, McCarthy continued reffing, grew increasingly comfortable in the role, and abandoned any thoughts of entering MMA as a competitor.
Another little-known fact: the yardstick of "intelligently defending yourself" is a phrase and standard coined by McCarthy in the early days of MMA.. Before the ref had the power to stop a one-sided fight, he had to rely on the fighter either tapping out or the fighter's corner literally throwing in the towel. Stubborn corners often refused to do the latter, creating situations where Big John genuinely feared for a fighter's safety. Concerned about this, McCarthy prevailed upon Rorion Gracie to tweak the rules to enable the referee to end a fight when, in the ref's judgment, one of the fighters was not "intelligently defending himself." This made MMA safer, which in turn likely hastened its acceptance by a growing number of state athletic commissions.
Much of the meat of book involves Big John going back, event by event, through the early days of the UFC. For some, this may be a tedious journey. For others, it is an interesting perspective on the early years of some fighters who are now luminaries but who were relative unknowns at the time, including Randy Couture, Vitor Belfort and B.J. Penn. He notes the way the sport was professionalized once Zuffa and the Fertita brothers purchased the franchise. This circumscribed the role which McCarthy had played during the SEG/Meyrowitz years of UFC ownership. Further, McCarthy found himself pulled in opposite career directions, trying to balance his police career with a growing involvement in MMA.
In the final phase of LGIO, McCarthy traces the fall-out he had with Zuffa and the UFC. His take is that much of it started over a misunderstanding about travel logistics to an UFC event in London. As a jumbo-sized humanoid, McCarthy asked to be upgraded to business class for the marathon flight from Los Angeles to the UK. By the time this was relayed to Dana White and the UFC brass, they got the impression that McCarthy was holding them up by demanding a first-class upgrade. From there, the relationship frayed. Still, in time, Big John returned to the UFC fold, exited his self-imposed "retirement" and is once again one of the most recognizable features on the UFC/MMA landscape.
McCarthy comes across as an earnest, no B.S. kind of guy, with no taste for bureaucracy or office politics. If you are a UFC or MMA fan, you will enjoy this book. You may never view Big John the same after you read this book and hear him exhort the fighters, "Let's get it ON!"

Half-Past Dawn: A Thriller ReviewThe story opens as a man comes downstairs and gets his morning paper, opens it and sees a headline that he is dead and his wife is missing.
After attending an event in honor of former FBI director, Sam Norris, his step-daughter, FBI Special Agent Mia Keeler and her husband, District Attorney, Jack, head home. They're stopped on a bridge and ordered from the car. When Jack attempts to resist, he's shot in the shoulder and placed back in his car and pushed over the bridge. Mia is kidnapped.
Though wounded, Jack survives but with his car at the bottom of the water, it is assumed that he and Mia are deceased.
After seeing the shocking headlines of his death, Jack examines himself and sees that his shoulder wound has been stitched up and that there is a tattoo on his arm, in foreign words that he doesn't understand.
With his old partner from his homicide days on the police department, they are at Jack's home when a man tries to sneak in. They surprise the man but before they can question him, something happens.
Meanwhile, we observe Mia in her captivity as a man calmly informs her that she doesn't have long to live if he doesn't get his way.
What are the pieces to this puzzle? Who has kidnapped Mia and how could they have staged the abduction so well?
Jack has the tattoo translated and makes an admission that changes the course of the novel and brings a philosophical element into it.
The pacing is excellent and the characters alive with realism. There are numerous twists before the reader finally gets a chance to catch their breath.
The book is well worth reading for the fast paced story, the well developed characters and the unique plot which left me wondering how this could have happened?Half-Past Dawn: A Thriller Overview

The Revisionists ReviewZed is an operative from the distant future, the Perfect Present. He is one of the sad souls tasked with working for the Disasters Division of the ultra-secret Department of Historical Integrity. Basically, he immerses himself in a past historical period (his "beat"), and then travels to that time to assure by any means necessary that past disasters (like the Holocaust and 9/11) occur as they were meant to. There are extremists factions from his time who have also acquired time travel technology, and these historical agitators--or "hags" as they are known--will stop at nothing to alter the past. But without maintaining the painful events of the past, the Perfect Present can never be achieved. He believes in the importance of what he is doing.
Zed's current beat is the early 21st century, just before the Great Conflagration and its decades of war and strife. He has adopted the identity of "contemp," Troy Jones. The Department sets operatives up with identities and covers that are similar in appearance and even history so that they can more easily blend in. Operatives are to leave as little "trace" in the timeline as possible. But Zed/Troy has been on the job a long time. He's tired, bored, and lonely. That's why he approaches Tasha; she's of no historical importance. Or is she?
Tasha is the second of several main characters in this complex drama. Another is Leo, an idealistic former government spook, who is now a private spook for hire. Leo's trajectory intercepts that of Tasha, Troy Jones, and Sari, a domestic servant in the home of Korean diplomats. Are you following so far? There's a lot of story here, and I've barely brushed the surface. There is no need to know more than this because the novel's plot is far too convoluted to summarize. Also, there are several twists and surprises that shouldn't be spoiled.
The novel described above sounds plot-heavy, and it is, but make no mistake, The Revisionists is a novel of ideas. Thomas Mullen is exploring ideas about race, politics, nationality, morality, history, identity, conspiracy, government, whether ends justify means, and so much more. It's a lot to take in, to the point that I was feeling slightly overwhelmed at times, but I love novels that make you think. They tend to stay with me long after I've set them aside. Mullen's is full of moral ambiguity, gray areas, and characters that can be hard to get a handle on.
It's worth noting that when I picked up this novel, I did not realize that it was set in my hometown, Washington DC. The setting of the novel is integral to the story, and Mullen, a former resident, does a great job fleshing out the reality of a city like no other. There's a lot about this novel that is challenging, and I can't even imagine how Mr. Mullen kept track of his sprawling and complicated tale, but it works. It really does. If this sounds like your kind story, it is recommended with one caveat: Do not expect this novel to be wrapped up neatly and tied with a bow. Be prepared to live with an element of ambiguity and questions that may nag after you've put the novel down. The Revisionists Overview

Horsekeeping: One Woman's Tale of Barn and Country Life ReviewI really enjoyed this book. As a part-time resident of this beautiful part of the North West corner of Connecticut myself I found Ms Bok's description of her joy in the area delightful. As a rider I loved the manner in which she wrote about her experiences with these special animals. She was very realistic about the difficulties involved and her descritions are touching and often amusing.
I grew up across the river from the Bok farm and I have been delighted in seeing the wonderful improvements to their property. The book provides details of this process. Very important is the dedication to conservency which the book emphasizes.Horsekeeping: One Woman's Tale of Barn and Country Life Overview

Wiseguy: The 25th Anniversary Edition ReviewI actually recently read the original book although I assume that this one is just as good. One thing is not clear however(although I admit that I did some outside research on this). In the movie and book, Billy Batts was a "made man" who was killed by Tommy, Henry and Jimmy on June 11, 1970, when Tommy was only 20. Batts was a made man and was killed without permission. Tommy was himself killed in January 1979 (when he was only 28), supposedly in retaliation for the Batts killing. This raises two questions: First, given that they went to all kinds of lengths to hide the body and not disclose what they knew about his disapperance, how was it figured out that Tommy, Jimmy and Henry had killed Batts in the first place (and more particularly that it really was Tommy's idea and he was the one who mostly committed the crime)? Second, if Tommy's murder was "in retaliation" for Batts' murder, 8+ years (1970-1979) seems like an awfully long time to wait to retaliate. Anyway, great book and great movie.Wiseguy: The 25th Anniversary Edition Overview

It Calls You Back: An Odyssey through Love, Addiction, Revolutions, and Healing ReviewI have known and worked with Luis for the past decade, my respect for him growing expnentially over the years. He inspires marginalized youth and old geezers like me. His words ten years ago led to my starting a poetry festival in a small Appalachian community that thrives today and inspires people to make the arts part of their lives. Luis's stories and passion and courage change lives. I salute him.It Calls You Back: An Odyssey through Love, Addiction, Revolutions, and Healing Overview
