Below Ground Level: Creating New Spaces for Contemporary Architecture Review"Below Ground Level" is a good introductory text on the subject, consisting of short sections with color photographs and descriptions of featured buildings (almost all in Europe), essays by several architects, and interviews of other architects. The psychology of building underground is well addressed, but the technical aspects are glossed over. This is certainly NOT a how-to book. Sustainable Construction: Green Building Design and Delivery, Second Edition ReviewSince I am the 1st person to review this book, I want to just say that I started with a smaller book that gave me the basics of green architecture, terminology and the run down on LEED and the USGBC. Next I followed up with this book and I must say that this book was EXTREMELY informative and covered everything in some way. Most of it was covered in detail and what wasnt covered in detail was touched upon, so you had an understanding of every aspect. The HOK Guidebook to Sustainable Design ReviewI am a property owner considering LEED Certification for a building remodel. As a starting poijnt, I have read the LEED guidelines at the Green Building Council website. However, I was looking for something more substantial to help understand the process. "The HOK Guidebook to Sustainable Design" fills that purpose.
This Guidebook is written by the HOK Architectural firm which has been one of the leaders in sustainable design. The book has three sections. The first chapters are a check list of design guidelines and questions that one needs to explore during the LEED design process. The second section looks at sustainability issues as related to certain building types and the final section are a series of short articles on LEED projects the firm has worked on.
This Guidebook is on its Second Edition and is invaluable for all those interested in LEED certification. It is well written and clearly organized. It is an expensive book but well worth the price. It is a great introduction into what is becoming an important area of design. Highly recommended.The HOK Guidebook to Sustainable Design Overview
